Mike Weiss, known as Mike Nervous, is the founder and president of Nervous Records — America's longest-standing independent dance music label, established in 1991. A Stanford graduate and entertainment lawyer turned label boss, Weiss earned his nickname from legendary WBLS DJ Chuck Chillout, who dubbed him "Captain Nervous" for his kinetic energy. Inspired by Frankie Crocker's advice to forge his own identity beyond his father Sam Weiss's Sam Records, Mike launched Nervous Records and built it into a powerhouse releasing music from Todd Edwards, Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden, Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, and Louie Vega. Under his leadership, Nervous also released seminal hip-hop albums including Black Moon's Enta Da Stage and Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin'. Today Mike is also one of New York's leading party promoters and DJs, frequently rocking the decks alongside Benny Soto at the city's iconic venues.
