About Nicolas Masseyeff

Nicolas Masseyeff fell in love with electronic music in 1989 under the scorching sun of the French Riviera. He opened Limelight, his own record store, which quickly became one of the most respected shops in Southern France. His musical influences span minimalism, jazz, new wave, Detroit techno, and Chicago house, with inspirations including Steve Reich, John Cage, Carl Craig, UR, Basic Channel, and Larry Heard. Nicolas began producing in 1998, but it was in 2006 that he truly found his sound and started releasing music seriously. Early highlights include the “Hostages” EP on the French label Zebra 3 and releases under the alias Vedrenn on John Henry Records. As a core member of the Plantage13 collective, he works alongside artists like Stephan Bodzin, Dominik Eulberg, and Super Flu, and labels like Herzblut and Monaberry. In 2008, his track “Deva” caught the attention of Stephan Bodzin, leading to a full EP on Herzblut Recordings and cementing his role within the label’s family. Nicolas also teamed up with fellow Frenchman Oxia for a series of acclaimed releases on Systematic and Tsuba, including a standout remix of Bodzin & Romboy’ s Luna project. In 2011, his debut solo album “The Motherland” dropped on Herzblut — a deep, personal journey full of emotional twists and sonic contrasts. Ever evolving, Nicolas released music on labels such as Noir Music, Suara, KD Music, and Ostwind, and collaborated with artists including Miss Kittin and Kavinsky. In 2016, he reunited with Oxia to launch their label Diversions Music, showcasing a wide range of electronic styles from melodic techno to deep, groove-heavy sounds. Nicolas continues to explore new sonic landscapes. In 2022, he released “Unmute” on DGTL Records with Parallelle, a tribute to the Dutch movement of the same name born during the pandemic. That same year, he reconnected with Kittinon Systematic for a hypnotic slow-burner and unveiled his highly anticipated album “ENDLESS” — a rich and emotional work featuring remixes by Avision and Marc Romboy, with artwork by his brother, visual artist Yann Masseyeff. In 2023, he returned to Crosstown Rebels with Parallelle for the single “Renegade”, supported by a heavy-hitting remix from Adam Ten & Mita Gami. The momentum continued in 2024 with two EPs on Diversions Music, “Life Reshade”and “Crush of You”, expressing his signature blend of melodic tension, groove and emotional depth. He also released “Surrender” — another collaboration with Parallelle on Crosstown Rebels — along with “Having Fun” on Indie House, a playful, vibrant cut celebrating pure dancefloor energy. Adding to the year’s highlights, Nicolas teamed up again with Parallelle for “Feel It”, released on their new label Folder — a deep and soulful track that blends their musical worlds into one hypnotic experience.
