About Sandro Oliva
SANDRO OLIVA, guitar player/composer, lives in Rome, Italy. Influenced by the "Psichedelic era" BEATLES and by the early FRANK ZAPPA, he started playing with teenage bands since 1967, then in 1973 he formed his own group, "FUNGO!". The band played original material and soon grew a local following, made it into a movie and got a record deal (though none of their recordings was released, being considered too far-out). After the band disbanded in 1981, he formed "THE BLUE PAMPURIO'S". Their two LPs and two CDs had enthusiastic reviews (though crappy distribution) and brought more following and appearences in a few TV shows. In 1993 he was asked to join THE GRANDMOTHERS, a band formed by ex-Zappa musicians Jimmy carl Black, Don Preston and Bunk Gardner, with whom he played several Europe tours and recorded two live CDs (which he also co-produced). When the GM broke up at the end of an intensive 2000 US tour, he reformed his own Italian band (often with J.C.Black as a guest) and continued composing and recording in his own studio, collecting a number of still unreleased works. Now he's going to post both past and new music on Spotify and all the other major platforms.
