SHMN returns with his sophomore album “Amadeus”. This project is an emotionally charged odyssey that explores the ideas of faith and transformation. “Amadeus” comes just 12 months after his debut LP “Interstice", which showcased his ability to work across a wide range of genres with equal style and skill. From Melodic Techno & House, Indie Dance, to Electronica, Breakbeat and a lot more genre bending moments in between, SHMN has always made music that is both uplifting and nostalgic, emotional yet driving. His deft sound designs are paired with dynamite drums and he always brings an artful and cinematic edge to his work. It works as well on close inspection in headphones as it does on a dance floor and often draws on the contradictions inherent in human nature and the trials and tribulations of personal growth and transformation. The title track serves as an invitation to contemplate ideas of faith with its lavish synth work flashing over the turbulent drums. An epic breakdown sends shivers down the spine before classical melodies and gorgeous choral vocals courtesy of Swedish singer-songwriter Jonatan Bäckelie take you into heavenly sound worlds which are then propelled by the mighty drums once more. “Decadence” is another elegant mix of powerful low ends and spraying basslines with expressive synths zipping about the mix and bringing real drama. “Run Away” featuring singer-songwriter Luke Coulson is a sublime seven-minute journey with lush broken beats and tender vocals scoring above delicate piano keys. It's an emotional roller coaster on an epic scale. “Catharsis” is a peak time explosion of bright synths and fizzy melodic fireworks, brooding bass and vocal fragments full of aching human soul. There is a real sense of resilience to 'Impermanent' with its pixelated leads and rousing techno drums that leave you feeling empowered while “Enigma” is a raw track with crashing drum hits and wavy leads to get dancers in a trance. “Arcane” brings the project to a close with moody strings and synths over vast drums that lock you into the all-consuming groove. This new album is another sublime electronic journey filled with narrative and lasting emotion that leaves you ready to head onwards and upwards.
