Indie dance is where electronic production meets band instincts: live bass, real drums, guitars and, above all, an actual vocal performance rather than a sampled hook. What Indie Dance Labels Look For
Indie dance A&Rs want songwriting, and they can tell within a verse whether there is any. A topline that repeats one phrase over a groove is a club record, not an indie dance record; what gets signed has structure, lyrics, and a performance with character rather than technical perfection. Production is deliberately warmer and less quantised than house: swing, live playing, tape saturation and analog synths all read as intentional here, and grid-perfect programming often reads as sterile. Tempo runs slower, typically 110–122 BPM, which means the groove has to be strong enough to work without the momentum a faster kick provides.
Submission Tips
Lead with the song. If your track has a vocal, put the section with the strongest lyric near the front of what you send, and include the artist context. Indie dance labels sign acts they can build a story around, and a producer with an identity is worth more to them than an untitled track from a nameless project. Clear your writer and vocal splits before you pitch. And be honest about the tempo: submitting a 124 BPM house record because it has a guitar in it is the mismatch these A&Rs see most often.

What is the difference between indie dance and nu-disco?
They overlap so heavily that many labels tag releases as both, and this directory reflects that. Indie dance is defined by its songwriting and instrumentation: a band-like performance, a real topline, and a palette that can lean dark and post-punk as easily as sunny. Do I need a vocalist to get signed to an indie dance label?
