What Nu Disco Labels Look For
Nu-disco A&Rs listen for the bassline first. It is the lead instrument of the genre, and a static root-note bass will sink a track that is otherwise well made. The bass has to move, ideally like something a person played. Above it they want real disco vocabulary: string and horn stabs used musically rather than as texture, a filter sweep that builds rather than just opens, and percussion with swing. The most common rejection in nu-disco is a sample-clearance problem, because the genre's edit culture makes it very easy to build a great record on someone else's master and impossible to release it.
Submission Tips
Be explicit about your samples before you are asked. If everything is original or replayed, say so in the first line of your pitch. That alone moves you ahead of a large share of the inbox. If you have sampled, name the source and whether it is cleared. Beyond that, submit the full package: nu-disco releases usually ship with a dub or an extended DJ version, and having them ready signals you know how the label will actually sell the record.

Salted Music is an independent record label based in San Francisco, California, founded by Miguel Migs in 2004. What BPM is nu-disco?
Nu-disco generally sits at 110–122 BPM, slower than house and noticeably slower than tech house. The lower end (110–116) leans toward boogie and edit territory; the upper end (118–122) crosses into disco house and works more easily in a house set. Pick your tempo from the label's catalog rather than from the genre range. The difference between 114 and 121 changes which imprints your record fits.
Do nu-disco labels accept edits and re-works?
Some do, but it is the hardest path to a signing, because an unlicensed edit of a commercially released disco record cannot be sold on Beatport or Traxsource without clearance the label would have to fund. Original productions and replayed arrangements (where you re-record the parts rather than sample the master) are far more attractive to an A&R for exactly that reason. If you work in edits, keep at least one fully original or replayed track for pitching.
